The Present Father

June 20, 2020

As a father of two boys ages 5 and 3, I am continually reminded of the importance of being a present and involved father. I could provide numerous studies and statistics around this truth, but I would rather speak more from the heart and personal experience.

I will confess that “being where your feet are” is more challenging today than it has ever been with all of the distractions the world has to offer. I am challenging all dads out there to resist those temptations and instead, lean into your kids and family. I have seen firsthand my children quickly choosing spending time with dad over cash and prizes.

Now before you stop reading because your children are already grown, or you are hearing the whispers of failure as a father, let me say with 100% certainty that the voice you hear is not from God. It is never too late to either begin to connect or deepen the connection with your children. Focus on being interested, rather than interesting.

While no father is perfect, I strongly believe we have a tremendous opportunity to lead and change the world through the love, affection, and attention we continuously and consistently show our children.

Being a father is hard work and I want to thank so many of those who give selflessly for the betterment of their children and family. My encouragement would be to keep fighting for your children’s hearts because the positive impact it will make in their lives is beyond anything we can imagine.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Dodds Wealth Advisors!
